Social Welfare Home in Gdynia (ID no E10197757) is a place that associates 79 residents in
a unique place with garden close to the forest.
The department provides care and assistance in basic life activities for
elderly people like: physical and therapeutic rehabilitation, various circles
of interest, social activation, meetings of Senior Club. We employ 67 workers
with various specializations. These are therapists, social workers,
psychologists, speech therapist, nurses, physiotherapists. In addition, willing
volunteers come to help.

Volunteer’s
role:
You will mostly support
work in Occupational Therapy, which using different kind of therapy such
as arts and crafts, audio-visual therapy, music therapy, recreational
activities, cultural and educational therapy, bibliotherapy, sociotherapy. Also
you can participate in organizing holidays and celebrations. Volunteers
support those activities and thematic groups by e.g. doing handicraft workshop,
drawing, painting, sewing workshops, Moreover is possible to support the
rehabilitation of our residents or help in the garden taking care of flowers,
trees, shrubs. All proposals for activities refer to giving support to a
professional staff.
Duration of the activity
6-12 months. Activity shall start between May 19 - September 1 and last minimum 26 weeks. There's a possibility to prolong it till 52 weeks.

We are looking for the volunteers who:
- are open to work with elderly people
- like to handicraft, draw, paint, sew
- have postive attitiude towords their work
- have patience and empathy
- are creative and independent
- search for new inspiration and ideas for their
workshops
- is willing to learn basic Polish

How to apply?
The activity will take place in Gdynia (250 000 inhabitants), which together with Gdansk and Sopot builds agglomeration called Tricity (750 000). Gdynia is a young city with modernistic architecture, built in the early XX century. It attracts many tourists and inhabitants with beautiful beaches in the city centre, music and film festivals and a couple of universities.
Gdynia ESC volunteers live in a few flats in different districts of the city and work in more than 10 different locations (libraries, NGOs, neighbourhood centres etc). Together with their mentors (local volunteers) they create a large, international and lively community of around 35 young people.
